The Rx: Add a travel clinic to your itinerary – NewsOK.com

1 min read

The next few months are prime for travel. If you’re planning an excursion to exotic destinations, make an appointment with your physician or a local family clinic.

Family physicians and clinics could offer vaccinations required by certain foreign countries, as well as required documentation. While some countries don’t require visitors to be vaccinated, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continues to recommend specific vaccinations, according to the traveler’s destination.

Don’t count on last-minute scheduling. Most vaccines are readily available, but occasionally it is necessary to order and 24 to 36 hours may be required for delivery and some vaccines need time in your system in order to have the desired protective effect. As soon as you start planning your international travel, check with the CDC website to see what vaccinations are needed and then contact your physician so they can make sure to have it in stock.
